1951 – September 26 – Daughter Cora A. dies. [Death of Mrs. O. M. Burnett, from a letter from Phyllis Martin: “Mrs. Cora A. Burnett, widow of Otey M. Burnett, died at 2 a.m. today at her home, 1701 Richmond Ave after an illness of six months. Born in Bedford County, November 23, 1875, she was the daughter of the late JOHN and MARY JOHNSON BURNETT. She was a member of the West Lynchburg Baptist Church. Her husband died bout three years ago. Surviving are a sister, Mrs Eric Cheatham and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Whitten Funeral Home at 2 pm. Thursday by Dr P T Harman. Burial in Presbyterian Cemetery. Palbearers were James T. Davis, A. G. Jeffers, E. F. Jessee, Frank Horton, D. J. McNerney and O. C. Crouch.” Accompanying note from Phyllis Martin:” “Aunt Cora, a dear and sweet sister of Papa (J. T. Burnett). She and Uncle Otey visited us often when all were young and spry. Both were jolly and wonderful. All those Burnetts were full of life in a nice way. Some of the of course, I never did see or meet up with!”]
